Long Shot May 16 1939 35 Sqn F/O James Paine #39470 (Australian) Battle K9470Hello, Can't help with John Paine's W/Op on 16-5-1939. But what l can tell you, that was not the last time he had to abandon an aircraft: 4 Feb 1941 No.45 Sqn Blenheim I L8538 Op: Barce Took off Menastir, one of two detailed to bomb a railway line 16km SW of Barce. Shot down in flames by a CR.42 fighter. F/Lt Paine bailed out and helped by local tribesmen returned to his squadron a few weeks later. 39740 F/Lt (Pilot) John PAINE RAF - evaded 581388 Sgt (Obs.)
