Jagan,
With the greatest of respect, the figures you are using are based on online CWGC data, which has been shown at times to be incomplete or incorrect. A good example of this are your figures for the RAAF Nursing Service deaths. You qoute 4 deaths for the RAAFNS, there were actually 5 deaths. The one that you have not picked up on, is: (N504)103 Sister Joan CONNELL RAAFNS, who passed away from illness at No.2 RAAF Hospital, on 17-5-1942. If you check the Graves Registration Report and the Register entry, you will see l'm correct.
https://www.awm.gov.au/people/rolls/R1704391/
There are many errors, still, on the CWGC database ie, incorrect units, dates etc. An error in one entry creates a need to correct an entry elsewhere. A useful tool, but not the final word.

Colin, absolutely. I have no doubt errors exist. even that lone entry for Burma Air Force is suspect - it must be BVAF. l read about a few additions that others (like on ww2talk.com ) have managed to get added into the DB. 60-70 years after the event!
Though in this case, Sister Connell's name is there in the db http://www.rafcommands.com/database/wardead/index.php?qname=CONNELL&qcntry=Australia&qdate=1942 but seem the parent unit is not recorded as RAAF Nursing Services.

Hi Jagan
Another example, I notice you show 676 casualties for 158 Sqn, however the 158 Sqn Memorial at Lissett has 851 names on it.

Malcolm
This will be a problem with all squadrons as many of the Commonwealth personnel do not have the unit shown as "nn Sqdn" on their CWGC record

Malcolm, i may have filtered out non-RAF personnel from it during my direct queries A direct search on the site is showing up 797 names (http://www.rafcommands.com/database/wardead/index.php?qname=&qnum=&qdate=&qunit=158&qcntry=&qmem=&cur=0) - the consistency in unit names is missing.. 158 Sqdn at one point and 158 (RAF) Sqdn at another. Still some 60 names short from your total.
This inconsistency can be found in another places. A search on 1 Sqdn would bring up 1 Sqdn RAF, 1 Sqdn RIAF, 1 Sqdn SAAF and show them in one page. I may have to provide an ability to filter based on parent unit (RAF, IAF, SAAF) etc to provide an accurate result.

Hello,
No.158 Sqn RAF Casualties (Roll of Honour)
RAF --- 684
RAAF --048
RCAF --098
RNZAF-021
Total --851
See:
In Brave Company - 158 Squadron Operations.
Chorley,W R.
Sixpenny Handley:Chorley,1990(2nd rev.ed.)
pp.xi-xxv.
NB. One error I have found in Chorley's RoH - J E R LAVIGNE (+9-1-43), is listed as RAF, he was RCAF (corrected in BCL9/274). One error on the CWGC, is: 174704 F/O Sidney HODGES DFC (+12-11-45), the CWGC have him listed as 128 Sqn - he was 158 Sqn.
At least six 158 Sqn ground staff were killed in an accident on 2-7-1943 (no unit mentioned on CWGC). http://www.rafcommands.com/forum/showthread.php?9321-430702-Unaccounted-airmen-2-7-1943

Hello All,
The most illuminating info in the thread is at Post#3. The Age at Death. The plotted curve shows a max at age 21. As I approach my declining years I find that the policepersons, doctors, pharmacists, council officials, etc, etc, are beginning to look more like 5th Formers out on a days “work experience” than experienced practioners!, and yet it was folk like this who went and did what had to be done at the time.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them!

Morning All,
What the CWGC has to offer is basically good and an unavoidable tool but as said, a lot of shortcomings, like there is no Czechowslovaks nor French for example. Personnally I prefer to focus more on the nationality than the Air Force in which the airman enlisted in. Thousands Americans served the RCAF or the RAF, like Irishmen from Eire, or also many Kiwis enlisted in the RAAF instead of the RNZAF (1500), and not to forget thousands of aimen coming from the Dominions who enlisted in the RAF, mainly before the war. We also can find Mexicans in the RCAF. Sadly, and that's a major negative point, there are many cases (too many actually) the place and date of birth or the names of the parents are missing.

From an appendix in Volume Three of my For Your Tomorrow - A record of New Zealanders who have died while serving with the RNZAF and Allied Air Services since 1915 (Volume Three: Biographies & Appendices):
WWII New Zealand aircrew only deaths by age. Includes those who served in RNZAF, RAAF, Fleet Air Arm, etc but excludes those who died as a result of a non-aircraft event.

57.5% died before their 25th birthday.
All but 89.5% died before their 30th.
Average age = 24.5 years
(compared with 26 years for WWI deaths)
Of these:
born 1896 to prior to WWI 683 (17%)
born WWI (4.8.14-11.11.18) 1328 (33%)
born after WWI to 1925 2003 (50%)
Thus one third were born in one world war only to die in the next.
