A.M.E Station
From RAF Friston (Sussex) ORB
"9th August 1944.
A new A.M.E. station was formed at Snap Hill located behind the Officers' Mess "
What's an AME ? The area concerned is heavy woodland, not the highest point locally. NGR is TQ 545003 and although described as behind the Officer's Mess is about 3 miles N of the camp. Any thoughts welcomed. Cheers Pete

Pete,
"A M E" Station normally meant "Air Ministry Experimental" Station. This bland title hid a multitude of sins. It could range from Radar, through the VHF range, to HF comms interception.
If Ian The Radar is listening on the circuit he may have the answer! Come in Ian!

Thanks, thought it must have been on those lines but could work out the letters. Pete
