Default RAF Tangmere August 25th 1944

    Gents,

Hoping someone has a copy of the Tangmere Station Records Book. Trying to find details on the emergency landing by Flight Lieutenant I Lock RNZAF skipper of Lancaster (NF906 HA-B) of No.218 (Gold Coast) Squadron. Hit by flak on route to Rüsselsheim , the crew made an emergency landing at RAF Tangmere. Looking for details on landing time, injuries to crew, damage to a/c or any other details.

    TIA

    Steve

    Steve,
Not much additional info, but this would be NZ415767 F/L Ian Frederick LOCK, RNZAF (seniority 1/12/44). He was awarded a United States DFC (dated 1/2/45), and has an entry in Colin Hanson's "By Such Deeds" (page 308), which confirms that he had completed 36 op sorties with 218 Squadron before being posted to instructional duties at 1651 HCU. He was a member of the RNZAF from 19/10/41 to 1/11/45, and was born at Kawa Kawa on 27/6/23.

    Hi David!
Do you know who was Tangmere RAF Station commander in July/August of 1944?
