Default Collision, Frankfurt September 12/13th 1944

    Gents,

On September 12/13th a No.218 (Gold Coast) Squadron Lancaster ( PD262 HA-G ) flown by F/Lt Howard Seller RAFVR is believed to have been in a collision with a Lancaster of No.576 (ME854 UL-D2 skippered by F/O A Aldridge) on leaving Frankfurt.

Can anyone add to these details.?

F/Lt Seller and crew were on their 29th operation when lost.

    TIA

    Hi Steve,
Can only tell you what you probably already know, that the casualty file for Leibhardt has an eye witness report.

    Hi Alan,

Yes I read that, I was just hoping there would have been any research since.

    Thanks for the post.

    Hi group,
I also read somewhere that Lancaster PD262 was claimed shot down by Hptm Martin Becker, I./NJG6 at 22:45. This of course does not rule out the possibility of a later crash.
Can anyone else corroborate the attack? Theo?
    Cheers,
    Bob

    Hi guys,

I've made the following entry in the manuscript of the NJWD 2nd edition:

Oblt. Jakob Schaus: 22 4./NJG4 4-mot nr Zell, 20 km. W. Worms: 4.000 m. 23.05 218 Sqn Lancaster PD262 or 576 Sqn Lancaster ME854. Note: both these aircraft are also believed to have been in a collision on leaving the target Frankfurt

Unfortunately I have no elaborate combat report from Schaus that could give more details..

    Cheers, Theo
