Default Lancaster Jo - 2 463 Squadron crash landed in sweden

Lancaster Jo - 2 463 Squadron crash landed in sweden. It was between 24th to 26th April.

This aircraft was attacked by a Me110 which they managed to shot down. Could anyone help with regards to the pilot of the Me 110? I imagine it will be difficult as german records were probably not the best during this period.

The Nachtjagd War Diaries (Boiten/Mackenzie) has the Ju88 G-6 as B4+OA of 4./NJG3 flown by Fw Kurt Gross. Gross and all his crew were killed in the subsequent crash at Stoledalen.

    Hello Adam,

    Are you sure the Lancaster wasn't RA542 ? JO-Z

Reference 'Flyghhisoriskn Revy' Aviation Historical Review (Swedish Aviation History published November 1976) Page 17 and listing at the rear of book, severely damaged by nightfighters, note nightfighterS not nightfighter.

There is a photo of the emblem underneath the cockpit window, also on page 17. Taken in Sweden? I will scan it for you if you want it. awarculus@xtra.co.nz

I have added a note in the book. - 'In Action with the Enemy' Page 8 A CGM was won. I have not got In Action with the Enemy' book but read it at sometime.

    Best of luck,
    'Digger'

    Hi Arthur,

I believe that the plural ('nightfighters') is not correct, as the Lancaster was attacked by a single Ju88, which was subsequently shot down.

    Cheers
