Default F/Sgt Alfred James Forth VR1007456

    Hello all,
This is an appeal to our genealogists please.
F/Sgt Alfred James Forth was KIA on 29-12-41 on 185 sqn when he crashed onto Hal Far airfield, Malta possibly due to combat damage.
This airman is a bit of a mystery as the CWGC do not list his NOK or age when he died. His service number makes him enlisting in the RAFVR in 1939/40 at either Cardington, Beds. or Padgate, Cheshire. This may point to where he came from.
Could you tell me if his DOB and location is listed in your files please, posibly around 1916 to 1923.
Sorry to be so vague, thank you.

    Hello Peter,
Thats a wonderful help, thank you. It seems 185 sqn called him 'Gremlin' for his looks but was a talented artist and was a valued member of the sqn in Malta, both in the air and in the mess.
    Thank you,
    Roy

There is an Royal Aero Club membership card for an Alfred James FORTH born in August 1910.

He got his RAC card in May 1939 via York and Leeming Flying Club and his occupation was 'Printer'. Was born and lived in Pocklington. His photo is with it and he is not in anyway untoward looking?

No obvious sign of a death in later years for a man matching this birth.

    Hello Dennis,
Many thanks for your help, it would seem AJ Forth was just under 30 years when he enlisted, which with his previous flying experiance with the York and Leeming Flying Club must have helped him being selected for flying training even at that age.
He arrived on 185 sqn in late August, 1941 after training on 52 OTU at Debden on Hurricane I.
Does anyonre know where he trained on ITW, EFTS & SFTS please.
    Many thanks Dennis,
    Roy
