    Default Hereford L6070 14 OTU

According to the records of No 73 MU, Wilmslow, the unit salvaged a crashed Hereford at Thornton-le-Moors, Cheshire during January 1941. They quote the serial as P6070 which is not a Hereford. The likely contender is L6070, the subject of several well-known Hereford formation photos. The photo shows it to be coded GL-A2, GL being the code allocated to 14 MU's parent unit, 185 Sqn. My first edition L serials book says it was with 185 Sqn and crashed on 5/1/41, no location being listed. Can anyone confirm that it was indeed L6070. Bill Chorley's OTU book does not include it and presumably there were no falalities.

    Hi Dave,

if you haven't seen it, there is a mention on http://bcar.org.uk/1941.html stating that the aircraft was on strength of 6 FPP and crash landed on the 5th January due to engine failure.

Hope that is of some help,

    Tom
