From The Times, 24 January 1985, Robert:

"James Michael Bazin, who died on Jan 9 at the age of 70, was a distinguished Battle of Britain pilot, and later bomber pilot. He joined 607 Sqn of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force when it was raised in Newcastle in 1938 and moved south with it in 1940. He was continually in operations against the Luftwaffe offensive that year, being credited with 10 "kills" and winning a DFC.

In the following year he volunteered for bomber operations, flying three operational tours with Lancasters and being appointed DSO while commanding 9 Sqn. His record so impressed Sir Arthur Harris that he appointed him wing commander (operations) at Bomber Command HQ.

After the war Bazin returned to the engineering industry, and raised 607 Sqn again, commanding it until 1952.

He leaves a widow, seven children and step-children."

When his death was announced, on 11 Jan, the place of death was given as St Peter's Hospital, Chertsey. His wife was Nan, and children Michael, James, Anthea, and Miranda; step-children Mark, Clare and Justin. He was cremated at Randall's Park Crematorium in Leatherhead on 14 January.

    Hi Brian,
Many thanks for that, it was driving me nuts trying to find it.
