Default Christian names of RAF pilots Malta 1941

    Hi guys

I am endeavouring to establish the Christian names of the following, circa 1941 Malta

    P/O R.J. SMAILE
    P/O T.M. CHANNON
    Sgt G.W. BATES
    Sgt R.O. McKAY
    Sgt J.M. McDONALD

Possibly the sergeants were commissioned 1942 onwards

Also, the following for whom I have no initials but had unusual surnames:

    Sgt GINGELL (observer)
    Sgt PREATER (observer)
    Sgt MOSES (air gunner)

    Any help appreciated
    Cheers
    Brian

use the London Gazette for the two P/O's in any case,
    758159 Reginald John SMAILE (84691).
Terence Martin CHANNON(63076), Awarded DSO in 1943 with 69 Sqn

A bit of trawlign in the LG ought too give some ideas for Gingell and Preater

There is a Norman Geoffrey Preater Commissioned (108162) from Flt Sgt 319127 on 10 Oct 41, but that Non-Com number looks very suspicious!!

    Hi guys

    Regarding my enquiries:

G.O. McKay may have been G.C. MacKay DFC - does this help?

G.W. Bates may have been George W. Bates - ditto

    Cheers
