You should consult Nick and Carol Carter, "The Distinguished Flying Cross and How it Was Won" (Savannah Press, 1998) which will list all the persons so honoured. An expensive two volume work, you would be well advised to check with an aviation or military museum.

If you live in the UK you can order Carter's book through your local library service, who probably don't have a copy themselves. It will probably come through the inter-library service via the British Library at Wetherby, Yorks. There may be a charge for this service. Mine (in Lancs) is only 60p (they may charge per volume, I only borrowed one). Each volume is very thick and heavy. Be aware that not all awards have a full citation included. This may involve further research elsewhere (N.A.'s).

Further to Post No.5 (mine), details of the RCAF recipients may be found at http://www.airforce.ca/index2.php3?page=wwii

As to the other persons listed, the appropriate London Gazettes do not provide citations to their second Bars to the DFC - but I have them as gleaned from Air Ministry Bulletins and will provide them upon your request (whenever you are ready).

    Default Copyright question

I originally had quite a long list, but Carter helped to finish it.

There are 50 on this list for WW2. I think it may differ from Maton because I don't think he lists non- UK or 'Empire' airmen. For example Skalski isn't in Maton but he is in Carter. Nor is Van Lierde.

So, can I post it here?

    What do people think?

Thank you guys for your wonderful help.
There are some asymmetrycal sources in this topic. I think Jim is right with non UK and Empire airmen. I had a biggest problems with non fighter command holders.

to JIM - ju can post it or contact me offboard

    with best wishes

    Munro
