Default Air Force List (inter war years) availability, south east England

    Hello all,
this message follows on from the thread '1920s Meteorological Section photo'
I plan a thorough search of The Air Force List, interwar years, to list Ft Lt AFC/DFC Met specialists.
I think there is a run at Kew, but being lazy in my advancing years, my question is might any list member in SE England have such a run that I could consult - or suggest a source, please.
    Thanks
    Dave

    Default Air Force LIst

    Hi,

You could try asking whether your library could get it on an inter-library loan. Not sure if it is the sort of thing that they would have and presumably it would be reference only but it might be worth a try.

    Regards,

    Ann

    Dave,

The interwar AFLs, published monthly, run to about 250 editions. Not the sort of thing that one would be able to readily access on interloan, I should imagine. A complete run, less a couple of editions, is also held at the RAF Museum.

    Already done Dave.

There are 52 Inter War Met course attendees listed.

Two are listed as having been awarded the AFC.

Two are listed as having been awarded the DFC.

Having eliminated Harris my next tack would be Lance Browning.

A dump of my Inter War database for filtered for Met is appended. I leave formating to the individuals.

    Regards
    Ross

Whitham can be omitted from the list as he looks nothing like the picture:

And Weir appears to have been a casualty of the SS Nerissa sinking. His CWGC shows no awards not can I find any on the LG:

    Hello to all,
Ann, thank you for the steer to inter-library loan. That would wake 'em up at my local library, because I had quite forgotten just how many volumes would be involved - thank you Errol for that and the suggestion about Hendon (my regards to Monsewer Visa).
And then Ross jumps in with his Met filter from his Inter War years database.
    Gulp. Thanks Ross.
Thank you Amrit with your two updates.
It all makes me think how information technology has accelerated the way we get at things. But underpinning it is good old fashioned assistance and co-operation.
    Best regards
    Dave

    Amrit,

My list is a compliation of Air Force Lists between 1918 and Oct 1940.

On each subsequent list entered I updated the course and decoration information.

In the Air Force Lists each officer is listed with his gradation date for that rank and decoration entitlement. Although gradation date changes with each rank decoration is cumulative.

As such the decoration list is current as of the last Air Force List I have before the officer retired/died.

For Information the interwar data base holds records from April 1918 to Oct 1940.

The specific Air Force List issues catalogued are:
    1918 April

    Hi Ross

I wasn't implying anything for the list that you posted. Just updating info if and when I find anything, and I've focussed on the few individuals who may have been candidates for the period during which this picture may have been taken.
