Default F/O 112394 John Charles William WALTER DFC

    Hi,
Does anybody in this most helpful forum know any more details about this casualty? An article by Nick Oliver in the current "Classic Aircraft" says that two 6 Sqn pilots were lost to light flak on 07.04.1943 - was F/O Walter one of them? Aircraft serial/ code?

WALTER, John Charles William DFC, Flying Officer 112394 RAFVR, 6 Sqn. RAF. Died 07.04.1943 aged 27. Buried Beja War Cemetery, Tunisia, 2.R.8
Son of Major William Fredrerick Walter & Kate Agnes Walter, husband of Ruby Irene Walter (née Dening) of Alresford.
    B.A. District Officer, Northern Rhodesia.

Thanks in advance for any help that anyone may be able to offer.

    From 'Fighters Over Tunisia' p.297

At 1820 11 Hurricane IId took off to attack tanks near Cekhira, but 6 of the 6s aircraft were shot down by intense light flak; F/O BL Thornton & F/S R Veal both returned, as did P/O JM Freeland, but F/O AHM Clark & F/S EV Hastings were killed and F/O JCW Walter was reported missing

    I have the serials as:

BP163 (listed in ABS as 6s SAAF)
    BP193
    KW704
    HV560
    HW359
    HW651
