    Hello,

    A bit more on 812204 AC2 William Joseph SMITH RAF(AAF).

    9th September 1939
    No.500 Sqn
    Anson I N5066:MK-?
    Op: Reconnaissance.
    Base: Detling
    T/o time: 17:43

    Ran out of fuel on a search sortie in fog over the North Sea and ditched at 22:45 hrs off Seasalter, Kent. A number of small boats including the Margate and Southend-on-Sea lifeboats carried out a search for the crew who were safely recovered.

    Hi Tim, thank you for posting this article. It has helped us to trace our (Great) Uncle William Joseph Smith and find his CWGC grave in Sittingbourne. Did your father have any photos of William or any recollection of his wife or family.
