Bedfordshires Unaccounted Aircrew

A candidate for Sgt. Bastick may be Anson R3431 which crashed into the sea north-east of Saltspring Island on 17 December 1942, while searching for another missing aircraft from 32 OTU (Anson N9560, declared missing on 16 December 1942, never located). I have no details on casualties on either aircraft, maybe Dakota can help.

Crashed on a daylight cross-country training exercise which included practice bombing. No cause found, aircraft struck ground at between 80 and 90 degrees and completely disintegrated.

Mission History
On July 26, 1944 at 11:00am took off from Tarawa Airfield (Hawkins Field) piloted by Captain Hugh W. Prince on a flight bound for Henderson Field on Guadlacanal. Aboard were five civilian flight crew plus twenty-one passengers including Americans and British personnel. The weather was clear. Over Malaita Island, this C-87 was tracked by radar until 10:35pm then was not seen again. When this aircraft failed to arrive, it was officially declared Missing In Action (MIA).

So date of death on CWGC is wrong it is July 26th 1944 NOT July 25th 1944

Probate has July 26th 1944 as well
