Default 2/Lt Sidney Harold Batty RAF - 1918

Hi, I am trying to find out some information regarding 2/Lt Sidney Harold Batty RAF, all I know is that he was commisioned from the ranks of the RE into the RAF (RFC) on 9th March 1918. I cannot locate any London Gazette entry for this, also I have no idea if he was aircrew? Any help, advice of info would be appreicated, - I have very limited internet access in Afghanistan!
    many thanks,
    Rick

    Default AIR 76 has him

    Hi Rick,

Just in case you don't already have it, you can get 5 pages of 2/Lt Batty's service record from DocumentsOnline. Hopefully the link works,

    http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/details-result.asp?Edoc_Id=8631779&queryType=1&resultcount =10

I'm assuming the date give (31 Dec 1896) is his birthdate.

    Regards,

    Jeff

    Rick,

I read elsewhere on another forum recently that TNA is upgrading the quality of its digital imaging of AIR76 records and that they may not be available again until this is work is completed. The upgrade is much needed in my view as much of what is on AIR76s is illegible in the present online images. Ironic, really, that the cheaper microfilm of the past was far better than the many times more expensive digital stuff. Hopefully the upgrade will bring the digital standard up to that of the old microfilm!
