    Default "Bomphoons" or "Bombphoons"?!

Chaps, is it "Bomphoons" or "Bombphoons"?!

Several ORBs refer to Bomphoons, without the B, but numbers of references on the internet and elsewhere also refer to Bombphoons with a B in bomb.

I'm swaying towards Bomphoons without the B, but is there a right and wrong, or is it interchangeable and a matter of choice (i.e. choose one and stick with it)?

    Thanks

I think if it were me, i'd be going for the "Bomphoons" as written in the ORB's, being that this would be the original spelling as done at the time. Words can have a habit of being changed/mis-spelt over time, and this may be one of them.

    Thanks Alan

I think I'll stick with Bomphoons, without the B.

For what it is worth I would probably go for "bomphoons" too, not just as this appears to have been the original spelling, but because "bombphoons", with four consonants in a row just offends the eye, causes me to blink, then read the whole word more slowly to see that I have got it right. When you vocalise either version, both sound about the same, and deletion of the second "b" has little effect in obscuring the meaning.
