The 20 year old was killed whilst on board one of three Blenheims on escort duty to Short Sunderland N9028
sadly they engaged a Dornier 18 instead of sticking with there escort on 21 June 1940. The youngster was killed in the second pass of the three attacks they all made. A second air gunner was also seriously wounded aboard the second Blenheim. Sgt Patrick Clarke was given a military funeral at Lerwick Cemetery five days later.
