    Default Ames units

    Hi,
I am a newbie here and can see there is an amazing level expertise across the various threads so hope someone can help.
Does anyone know of a source for finding out he locations of the AMES units?
My father's service record has him in/at AMES 171, apparently under 219 Group, but in his letters it is clear he was also in/at AMES 141, both in 1946 in the middle east.

I had always understood he was part of a group that went from place to place with trucks, setting these very small AMES units up, but maybe I have that wrong.

    Thanks

    Hi Greensteam,

here's a link to the ORB (War Diary) for 141 AMES at the National Archives:
    http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/displaycataloguedetails.asp?CATID=-1891497&CATLN=7&Highlight=%2C141&accessmethod=0

I've had a quick look for 171 AMES but can't find it. If you have a play around with the search options you'll probably find it though.

    Hope that's a start,

    Tom
