    Default No.163 Sqn - Mosquito B.XXV KB476 - 13/14-3-1945

    Hello,

Need some help tidying up the following loss. Bill Chorley does not fully ID the crew, but I have positively identified the pilot, and tentatively identified the navigator:

    13/14-3-1945
    No.163 Sqn.
    Mosquito B.XXV "W"
    Op: Berlin

Took off 1838 Wyton. Reported to have crash-landed 2336 at Hulten (Noord-Brabant) and quite close to the airfield at Gilze-Rijen. No injuries.

AUS409697 F/O (Pilot) William Edward HARRIS RAAF - Injured (despite what Bill Chorley says)
    J/44954 F/O (Nav.) James E. WYNES RCAF

    See: BCL6/126

Would appreciate confirmation, or otherwise, on navigator, and any other details on this incident.

Have all details from the NAA and Dutch sites (NMIH etc.).

    Thanks,

    Col.

    Col,
According to my notebook, i have the "K" report for this aircraft up in the attic, i'll have a look later. I'd like to send a scan, but my scanner's on the blink.

    Col,
Can confirm J.44954 F/O James Edwin Wynes as Nav.
Lost port engine over Berlin, believed from flak. Returned on one engine to Brussels area, and crash landed at Gilze Rijen.
There is a humorous note with the report that states....The pilot's comment is that "everything went haywire" and it is felt that "everything" possibly does not exclude the pilot.

    Alan & Dave,

Your contributions are most appreciated. Confirmation on Wynes, particularly welcomed.

Scan of AIR14/3472. K File No.5, would be handy, but not essential. If I need more, I will get Harris' files digitised.

    Thanks Fellas,

    Col.

    Col,
Can't promise anything, but if i have time over the next couple of days, i'll try and get the file scanned elsewhere and send them on, possibly tomorrow.

    Alan,

No rush, whenever you find the time.

    Thanks,
