Default 160 Training Unit Upper Heyford 1000 bomber raid 1942

I have been researching my cousin who was training I think at 160TU when it took part in the first 1000 bomber raid is there a way of finding out if this was the case.

    Sgt T.R. Bevan 1317942

He later perished on his first mission 24/25 Sept 1942 on Lancaster R5679 all on board died

    Thanks

    Hi,
Your best hope is that someone here may have a copy of the 16 OTU record Book. 16 OTU sent 16 Hampdens on the Cologne raid, according to info i have. One returned early, the rest bombed the target.
If you would like any information on your cousins time at 61sqdn, email me, as i have a copy their Operations Record Book.
    Alan.

Just looked in the 61sqdn ORB, and unfortunatley, this crew were lost on their first and only op with the squadron. If you want scans, let me know.

    Thanks Allan
I believe you have sent me copies from a previous post I put up concerning R5679 on the Key publishing site. Incidently is it you who has been in contact with Allan Turner from Colorado whose father flew on 61 squadron he has sent me a copy of his fathers look book. I think he was trying to contact you, if that is you.

Apologies for not getting nomenclature correct!

    Hi,
Yes, i have been in contact with Allan Turner in the past, if you could let him know im still here. I can recall sending info out about R5679 some time back, but i send so much stuff out, that i lose track. I've also recently had a bit of trouble with the pc and lost all the files i had not backed up, including photo's of crew of R5679.
    Cheers.......Alan.

    Dear Beachcomber
I was looking at the 16OTU ORB last year, but for 1940. It is available at Kew in its original form (Not microfilm) so it is unlikel that anyone has a digital set.
During 1940 it is very informative on personnel movements. I did not look at the 1000 raids, but judging by what I saw it looks hopeful as it seems to be well compiled.
Take a camera and photograph it then you can view it at your leisure at home.
    Happy reading
    James

    Hi Beachcomer,

I have the 16 OTU ORB for the Cologne raid, 30/31st May 1942 and 30 aircraft involving Hampdens and Wellingtons were dispatched. Unfortunately I can find no Sgt. T. R. Bevan on the crew lists.

If you wish to pm me your e mail address I would be happy to forward you copies.

    Cheers,

    Russ
