Default LAC Harold Edward Hartley, 944034, 15-04-42

Does anyone have any information on the death of the above?

I have evidence that he was killed in 'a flying accident' & the fact that he is buried in Mesa City, Arizona, would suggest he was associated with 4 BFTS, which was based there. However his age as stated by CWGC, 30, seems a bit high for him to be training as a pilot.

    Hi,

RAF Overseas War Deaths 1939-1947 lists his unit as 4 BFTS.

Regarding his age, I was researching an RAF pilot born 1910 who also trained in the US in 1941. I believe for wartime pilot training (1942) under 31 for Pilot training, under 33 for Navigator and Bomb Aimer. Under 39 for Air Gunner !

Sorry, I'd meant to reply earlier & confirm he was from Yorkshire, but you clearly did fine without me. Many thanks.

Don't suppose anyone would have details of the a/c?
