Default Lanc ED500 467 Sqn RAAF

    Hi,
I would be most grateful if anyone could tell me the a/c letter of ED500 whilst with 467 Sqn RAAF. There is no mention of individual letters in the Sqn ORB on the NAA site. Thanks.

    Hello,

    This site:

    http://rafmuseum.org.uk/london/collections/aircraft/aircraft-history/74-A-12 Avro Lancaster R5868.pdf

    (scroll down to Sep 43)

indicates, it might have been: ED500: PO-S

    Needs verification!

    Col,
Thanks very much for your reply. I'll try and contact the author of the text, and hopefully verify where he had the info from.
    Cheers

Somewhat ambiguous, but this website suggests ED500 could be PO-V:
    http://www.spmodelismo.com.br/howto/am/personalidades/gomm.php

"Night of March 3, 1943. Awaiting the moment of departure for the attack on Hamburg, members of 467 Squadron Lancaster ED500 relaxing by PO-V, piloted by Gomm tonight."

I'll check my reference books when I get home next week (I have Nobby Blundell's history of 467 and 463 squadrons) to see if I can glean any more info/certainty!

    Hello Max,

I think the photo caption on the site you mention is incorrect. I believe ED539 was in fact PO-V.

    http://www.467463raafsquadrons.com/Pdat467/gommcl.htm

Ditto, the 467 Sqn ORB (p.1185 of 1238).

AUS408844 P/O Stuart Reginald HOOPER DFC RAAF, regularly flew ED500. Now if we could get a look at his log book, or that of AUS408867 Sgt Jack Willoughby NANCARROW RAAF, we might be getting somewhere.

Yes Col, you're absolutely right, PO-V was ED539. Looking through the 467 squadron history book, I also noted that P/O Hooper flew ED500 more than any other pilot, and as you say, his logbook probably holds the key. The identity of ED500 is likely to remain a mystery, which is hard luck on Celt 22!
