    Default 44 Sqdn ORB's Sgt Hulbert crew,Lanc ED307

Who can help me with the 44 Sqdn ORB's especially for the Sgt C.V.L.R. Hulbert crew(Lancaster ED307). aircraft crashed east of Nuenen in Holland in the night 28/29 June 1943(Cologne raid). Found out that ED307 was assigned to 9 Sqdn but also with this crew??

    Hi Adrian,
I can, and will have a look later today, what exactly do you want in the way of info
    Alan.
The Hulbert crew were posted in, from 1661 CU on 24/06/43, and were on their first op with 44sqdn when lost. Although on the 28/29th, the ORB lists the aircraft mistakenly as ED507 "R", it is recorded in previous pages as ED307 "R".
Checking with 9sqdn ORB reveals no ops for this aircraft.

    Hi Alan,

Very nice to hear ffrom you again and I truly hope that you can help me. In September we expected here in Holland the Australian familymembers of F/Sgt P.J.Galligan who was acording to the family an airgunner. I thought that Galligan was listed as a Bombaimer. Further Sgt Sykes was the Navigator and Sgt A.Tooth was the navigator. Tow Navs on the first Ops of this crew is a bit strange to me. Thought that Sgt T.R.Jones and Sgt G.A.Denney were both gunners but which one Midupper and which one reargunner is unclear to me. Could you shine more light on this?? If you have the ORB's could you send me the ORB of 44 Sqdn for that night to me?? a.zantvoortATonsneteindhoven.nl. Replace AT for @.

Regards and I looking forward to hear from you,
    Adrian

    Many Thanks again Alan,
    Adrian

    Hi Adrian,

I had a look at the National Archives Australia web site Galligan crash file and service have not been put on line, it may be worth your while to do so ($16.20 Ausd). I see also his older brother was later KIA with 623 Sqn on the night of 31 Aug/1 Sept 1943. Some families paid a high price indeed.

    Regards,

    John.

    Default CVLR Hulbert

I always look up this name around this time, and try to find out a bit more information about him. His Nanny was my mother's Nanny and we knew his mother. He was an only child and was only 21 when he died. I would appreciate any other information about him and his crew.

    Jude,
Apart from what has already been posted here, i can only offer to send you scans of the relevant pages from the ORB. If you would like them, please pm your email address to me.
