    Default 226 Squadron - 6 August 1944 - Forward Fighter Strip A-12

Can anyone provide me the a/c and crew completion for three (3) Mitchell a/c that forced landed 6 August 1944 from flax damage. There is nothing recorded in the 2nd TAF book by Shores & Thomas.

    The pilots of the respective a/c were:1) F/O R.H. Fowler (RCAF) (Mitchell FW152 "V"); 2) F/L R.G. Orpen (RCAF) and 3) F/O McQueen (RAF).

    Thank you in advance.

Hey Christian, I am sorry I didn't find this earlier.
My grandfather R.H (Bob) Fowler passed away last week.
His crew was made up of himself, Wilf Stanger and Russ Hunter.
I am not sure of Ron Opren or 'Mac McQueens crew names.

Years ago my Grandfather wrote a fantastic telling of this event which was made up from his journals.
Here's a link to the article (The Long Way Home) pg 8. Hope some of this helps!

    Hi Patrick,

    Thank you for your posting.

I was in touch with your grandfather, via e-mail, 2 December 2007. He later sent me a copy of his article "Ventura Lost" that appeared in CAHS Spring 1999 issue.

Can you contact me at pennfieldparish@yahoo.com

    Regards,
    Christian
