    Default S/Ldr Boothby 1944

    Hi
Does anyone know of a Squadron Leader Boothby who was based at RAF Bognor, RAF Tangmere or Thorney Island in 1944?

    Cheers Motherbird

    Hello,
I donít know if this is any help, there was a P/O Boothby serving with 161 Squadron at Tempsford in 1942, the ORB on Bob Bodyís web site http://www.tempsford-squadrons.info/index.htm has regular entries for him until 24/9/42 when he bailed out of a Whitley over France and evaded capture.

As 161 Squadron operated from Tangmere during the Moon period itís possible that he is the same person you are looking for, it could be worth contacting Bob to see if he can help, there is an email link on his web site.

    Regards

    Peter.

    Peter,

If Motherbird's "1944?" is correct, it could not be the same Boothby.

Oliver Clutton-Brock, In RAF Evaders (p.352), records the following for Boothby:

DFM (22/11/40). Evacuated by "Seawolf" 12 October 1942. DFC (8/12/42). Killed in action 10 September 1943* as flight lieutenant on 624 Squadron. Commemorated on the Malta Memorial.

    * That date is questionable (so is the unit), possibly 7 September 1943 (No.1575 Flight).

    Hello Col,
Thank you for correcting me, my information, incorrectly gives his initials as DC, when they should be CD, because of this I assumed that the CD Boothby Commemorated on the Malta Memorial was not the DC Boothby who served with 161 Squadron.

    Regards

    Peter.
