    Default RAF Squadron use of these Hudson's and their fate ?

    Hello,
    What did 45 Group use these Hudson's for and what became of them ?
    BW409; 411 ;445 ; 684 ; 699 .
    Also

    BW385 ; 420 ; 422 ; 424 ; 425 ; 426 ; 427 ; 428 ; 429 ; 435 ; 440 ; 446 ; 455 ; 459 ; 615 ; 714 ; 721 ; 769 ; 773 .

    Hi Alex,

    I think that in case of 45 Gp it is most probably they were only delivering them from Canada to UK?

    I can check the AB serials if you have not done this already.

    According to the thread below, the Hudson BW 422 and BW424 to BW429 were never allocated to RAF but instead were diverted to China under the name of A-29 Hudsons.

    45 Group operated a Ferry OTU at North Bay, Ontario (don't know the official name). This operated a few each of whatever aircraft were being ferried at the time. There was also a 45 Group Comm Flight at Dorval, again with a range of aircraft. Both units would often use an aircraft briefly before it was ferried on to the UK.

    In addition, 45 Group at Dorval also operated Hudson IIIA BW769 plus BW411 and BW616 which both crashed. There were other Hudson marks on strength with 45 Group too. Used for training for sure and likely as hacks.

    There is some information about the aircraft listed in THE LOCKHEED TWINS (Peter Marson);

    BW385,BW420,BW422,BW424, BW425,BW426,BW427,BW428,BW429,BW721 diverted to Chinese A/F.

    BW409 sold post-war as CF-EZM
    BW411 crashed prior to July 1943
    BW445 sold post war as CF-ESJ
    BW684 sold post war as CF-ESK
    BW699 sold post war as CF-ESI
    BW435 crashed Tampa FL 16th January 1942
    BW440 crashed Bangor ME 30th December 1941
    BW446 crashed in USA prior to January 1943
    BW455 crashed on delivery flight 14th December 1941
    BW459 damaged beyond repair on delivery to RCAF prior to January 1943
    BW615 crashed Nashville TN 22nd February 1943
    BW714 crashed Long Beach CA 3rd February 1943 before delivery to RCAF
    BW769 sold post war as CF-CRJ
    BW773 crashed in USA before delivery, prior to January 1943

    (BW769 survives at Gander NL and BW445 was preserved at Greybull WY but may have moved, currently registered to Wirraway Aviation, Los Angeles CA).
