    Default RAF Harwell 15 O.T.U Bombing 16-8-1940

    Hi,

I have two men listed as killed when 15 O.T.U RAF Harwell was bombed 16-8-1940 :-

906866 AC1 Ernest N PITT (KOAS) Died Wallingford
702278 AC2 Edward J SAUNDERS (KOAS) Died Wallingford

Some accounts report three killed, so I was wondering if 922869 LAC Edwin D GILES (KOAS) Died Wantage is the third man, or as a pilot under training did he die in plane crash ?

    TIA

    Mark

    Hi Mark,
Only two men (Saunders and Pitt) were kiiled in this air raid and Giles is not listed in the ORB as one of the five airmen injured or in any other incident on this date.
    Regards, Doug.

    Mark,
I've GILES on Cadet aircraft, civil registration G-ADTR of 3 EFTS, Watchfield, Berkshire. Engine cut, crashed Camden Farm near Farringdon.
    Perhaps Malcolm may confirm.
    Regards,
    Henk.

    Hi

I can't confirm the aircraft but he was registered in Wantage, Berkshire which covers Great Faringdon and Harwell, so if he wasn't at Harwell the crash Henk suggests seems a distinct possibility
