Default H.F.R. Goblet (Belgian), 198 Sqn

    Hi all,
Henri Félicien René Goblet (Belgian) joined the RAF in August 1940 and had a long career with it. Does anybody know when did he serve with the 198 Squadron?
    Regards

    H.F.R. Goblet
    .........
    08.08.1944 84 GSU Lasham-near-Halton
    12.09.1944 609 Squadron
03.03.1945 PoW (sdbF near Xanten, Germany, Typhoon EK380)
    ........
    What about 198 Sqn?
14.09.1944 P/O Goblet was a member of 609 Squadron. (or 198 Sqn?) Was the Typhoon JR384 a 198 Sqn aircraft on loan to 609 Sqn? (123 Wing)

Mojmir , yes A BIT of a puzzle this one , my records show that GOBLET was with 609 sqd 12/9/44 -3/3/45
BUT this is unconfirmed , my records also show that Typhoon JR 384 WAS on the strenght of 198 SQD , ?

ANOTHER interesting fact is that 257 sqd had arrived at FAIRWOOD COMMON from ST - CROIX , in Normandy in MID AUGUST 44 , with its typhoons TO CONVERT from the bombing role to the rocket attack role
perhaps GOBLET was involved in this conversion ? but with which SQD ?

the range that they were using would have been used form FAIRWOOD COMMON .

SORRY I CANNOT BE OF MORE USE perhaps the RAF FORM 1180 CRASH RECORD CARD WOULD CONFIRM THE LOSS OF JR 384 and off course the sqd it was assigned to

    good luck

    Hi Mojmir
Although most Wings sent complete squadrons to Armament Practice Camps, 123 Wing sent 'composite squadrons' - a mix of pilots and aircraft from all four squadrons of the Wing. Goblet was part of such a squadron attending APC at Fairwood Common when he made the forced landing.
