    Default F/O William David WENDT

    Hi all,

F/O William David WENDT, J/39857 was an American in the RCAF.

He was KIA on June 7th, 1944 while on a patrol with N19 Squadron (RAF) over Normandy, flying a Mustang Mk III (serial FZ141).

F/O Wendt was buried in the local cemetery of Eturqueraye.

Any photograph of the above mentioned airman would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I am looking for the individual letter of FZ141.

    Thanks a lot,

    Fox.

    Renard

FZ141 was coded QV*E. Wendt was only on the squadron for 3 to 4 weeks and flew just 7 operations. I don't know of a photo of him.

    Steve,

Thank you very much for these details.

    Scuber 1122,

I had hit the link but could not find confirmation of this story. His name does not appear when searching November 1942 in RAF Fighter Command Losses (Vol.2).

    Regards,

    Fox.

You will not find the November 1942 incident in Fighter Command Losses. At the time Wendt was a Sgt pilot on 249 Sqn based on Malta and was forced by engine trouble to bale out over Italy hence he became a PoW but subsequently escaped.

    Hi all,

Can anyone help with the reference for No. 19 Squadron ORB (1944) at Kew? I assume it is AIR27/XXXX.

    Thanks,

    Fox.

    EDIT: I found it -- AIR27/254.

    Default William Wendt

    Hi

There's some information on William Wendt in my book SPITFIRES OVER MALTA, including an account of his escape from POW camp.

    Cheers
    Brian
