    Default 24 and 271 Squadrons, 1939-1940

    Hallo all,

Could anyone please tell me which higher headquarters controlled 24 and 271 Squadrons during the period September 1939 to December 1940 ? Which Group, Command or Headquarters ?

    Regards,

    Martin Gleeson.

    Hi Martin

In December 1939 24 was under 11 Group but 271 hadn't been formed yet.

By 1942 271 was in 70 Group, Army Co-operation Command but in 1940, 70 Group had been in Fighter Command if it had been formed in 70 Group.

    All the best

    Malcolm

    Martin,

No.271 (Transport) Squadron was under 5 Group control at the end of April 1940. It was still under 5 Group in May 1941, thus Bomber Command.

    Regards,

    Martin.
