    PATS,
R.F. BEISLEY listed in PoW-register as 751981 W/O R.F. BEWLEY, Camp L6 PoW Nr. 480. May have been second pilot.
    J. HALL was in 9C and repatriated; may have been the observer (Footprints on the Sands of Time by Oliver Clutton-Brock, page 309; mentioned as source: "See p.51 'Intercom' Summer 89").
I've 742138 Sgt W.H. JORDAN as the rear gunner imprisoned Camps L3 and 357 PoW Nr. 506.
    Regards,
    Henk.

    Hi,

I believe Sgt John HALL was the rear gunner. I was looking at a video 'Some of Our Airmen Are No Longer Missing' which shows him returning to the crash sight now reclaimed farm land. Parts of his aircraft were recovered in 1967.

Also I believe Sgt Jordan was the second pilot, his service number denotes RAFVR pre-war pilot training like Sgt Garrioch. Also I note both Jordan and Garrioch received the Air Efficiency Award as Warrant Officers during 1946 !

I think Sgt Reardon manned the front turret.

    Errol, Henk and Mark,

Thanks for the info and leads.

Errol did give me the full name
    40791 - Sgt. - W.Operator / Air Gunner - Hardie George Hedge - RNZAF - Age .. - POW
from here I was able to find a newsclip at The Evening Post - Saturday March 1, 1941

Sgt. Hardie George Hedge - RNZAF
previously reported missing is now reported prisoner of war
Born at Wellington and was educated at the Hutt Valley High School
were he took a prominent part in sporting activities
Prior to his enlistment he was employed by the New Zealand Railways
Son of Mr. C. G. Hedge (father), 2 Elder Street, Dunedin, New Zealand

For Beisley / Beislay / Bewley I have to dig further for the right surname.

Did check out 'Some of Our Airmen Are No Longer Missing' - indeed John Hall was in the rear as gunner

    Hi,

A seven page account by Bill Garrioch in 'RAF Bomber Stories' Martin W Bowman 1998

Garrioch, his navigator Bob Beioley and Taffy Reardon had completed 12 ops on Blenheims before converting to Wellingtons.

One point I don't understand Sgt Reardon body was recovered in 1967 and buried. He appears never to have been listed on the Runnymede Memorial for the missing. So as I understand it either his name was never recorded on the Runnymede Memorial, which seems unlikely. Or a grave was incorrectly marked as Sgt Reardon grave ?

    Default WELLINGTON Mk.IC. T2702 LS-H - 10 Feb 1941

    L.S.,

This should be the crew of T2702 to my knowledge
For the Navigator/ Observer things are not clear yet for his surname
.... it could be also Robert Fletcher BEIOLEY

When the ship was salvaged ... only one body was found.
So it's 100% REARDON as the only victim of this crash.

Service number of HALL and middle name of GARRIOCH are just to solve.

Default Wellington T2702 - Tail Gunner John Hall

John Hall was a longtime and very good friend of my Father and Mother. I've had the privilege of chatting with him on several occasions, most recently a couple years ago (about 2010) when he was 90+ years old and living in the Midlands in Walsall area. Sadly, he passed away a little less than 2 years ago. I believe he was in a home for aged up on Scotland that had quite a number of elderly military men. His daughter lives in the south. His wife, (Ruby I believe) passed away several years ago. Wonderful chap -- I remember him saying to me re; the Wellington "it didn't fly very fast, and it didn't fly very high......well....not high enough anyway" he said with a smile. He lost his leg in the crash. I remember him saying the Germans did a good job on the amputation. If I can help in anyway I think among some papers I have I likely have his daughters contact info. Cheers!

    Hi PATS

Hardie George Hedge (George) is my stepfather. He is still alive and well at 94 years old. Living in Orewa, in Auckand, New Zealand. I understand from George that Reardon's body was found when an area of the Zuiderzee was reclaimed and the plane remains uncovered. I believe there was a documentary made regarding the retrieval and his subsequent burial.

His memory is letting him down a little now, but in remembering his POW and flying days, it can be as sharp as a tack.

    Kind regards
    SUE DIXON
