    Default Fairey Battle L5513 , losses 14/15 June 1940

    Hello,
I am seeking information to complete these three men. On June 14, 1940, they lost a first Fairey Battle L5513 and the next day they lost to Vitré, a second L5513 whose serial number had been painted quickly.
Sergeant. Brumby. Sergeant. Hedley. LAC. Werner. All three RTD. 103 Squadron.
I do not have their names, they have survived the war ?

    Hallo Dan,

There is considerable confusion with Fairey Battle losses around these dates. L5513 of 103 Squadron with the crew mentioned force-landed at Vitre on 14 June 1940. They did not suffer another loss on the 15th. The pilot was Sgt. Norman Brumby who flew Hurricanes from September 1940 and was killed in action on 1 October 1940.
I believe the Battle (serial unknown) lost on 15 June 1940 by 103 Squadron was flown by P/O J C F Hayter. Oddly both Brumby and Hayter joined 615 Squadron on 4 September 1940. Much of the above comes from 'MEN of the BATTLE of BRITAIN' by Kenneth Wynn.

    Hope this helps,

    Martin Gleeson.

    Hello,

Thank you indeed for the time there was an error. The next day there is another Fairey Battle of lost data in the region of Rennes, Pilot Officer. KIRBY. (RTD). 142 Squadron. But I do not have any more to the crash site and the rest of the crew and its serial.
