Default No.405 Repair & Salvage Unit, Headcorn

ORBs for the above refer to a/c being returned to Airfields 126, 127, 128 129 Can anyone point me to a listing of airfield numbers or tell me where these were? Cheeers Pete

    Hello

In this context, Airfields is the name of the flying unit, grouping several Squadrons. They were called Wings before, and were renamed Wings later !

126 and 127 were R.C.A.F. airfields / wings. You may check in "Royal Air Force Flying Training and Support Units" by Air-Britain (although I found that some locations were not given or not accurate enough). The series "2nd Tactical Air Force" is also a good pick-up on this subject.

Their ORBs are accessible in the AIR 28 series at Kew.

405 RSU ORB is also at Kew in the AIR 29. I've read it years ago, and wasn't impressed at the time.

Thanks Joss, using the squadron numbers mentioned in context with the airfields I have got a pretty good idea matching the date and squadron histories. Just wanted to confirm them.
