Default Special Operations, 101 sqdn (book) by Raymond Alexander

Can anyone give a reasonably detailed appraise of the limited edition book as per the title block ?

Considering purchase but would like to know a little more of what to expect ref content.

    Thanks in advance.

The book is a small A5 (approx) paperback volume and it contains a summary of the squadron's history up to and including the 'V' bomber era. It contains a Roll of Honour and accounts of the sqns time at Ludford Magna.

It has 175 pages of which 65 or so deal with WWII and the rest is either WWI or postwar with Canberras and Vulcans.

There is a summary of aircraft flown, details of sqn cdrs, a couple of other lists, which don't seem to have a real theme and some monochrome photographs scattered throughout the book.

Ray Alexander (not to be confused with a wartime sqn cdr) was an SNCO on the sqn in the later years.

It really depends on what you want the book for and how much you've been asked to pay for it.

In summary, an interesting book but not of any great cerebral research but because it tells the sqn's story. I would buy it for the Roll of Honour alone - and for the story of a bunch of mates, jumping out of a Vulcan near RAF Valley (they all got away with it too!!!).
