    Default 302 Squadron Casualty, 19 September 1943

Sgt. Plt. J. Krzystofinski (sp?) was hit by AA over Béthune and ditched 10m SE of Dover in Spit Vb, W3631, during Ramrod 233 to Liéven, Pas-de-Calais, on 19 September 1943. He was rescued and returned to his unit.

Could someone please provide me his full, correct name? Various websites, the 11 Group ORB Appendix and Franks' FCL all differ on the correct spelling of this pilot's surname. Can someone definitively clarify the correct spelling, please?

    Thanbks
    Steve

Steve, he was sierż. pch. /W/O Jerzy Józef Krzysztofiński, 793460 born 05.03.1923. His post-war whereabouts are not known, so there is a slim chance he is still with us.
I really do not know, what is the problem with spelling Polish names correctly.

Thanks for your very quick response, Franek.

I don't know if, or indeed why, that may be the case, but my question was intended to ensure I spell it correctly at least in my own work.

Steve, I am Jerzy Krzysztofinski's son in law. Sadly he is no longer with us - he took British Citizenship in 1950 and took the name George Kingsley. I'm not sure of the nature of your work but I do have all his log books covering the war period if I can assist in any way. Also thank you Henk for the information regarding his sea rescue - looking at the time of year and the time in the evening he was extremely lucky to be picked up. We know he was a two times member of the goldfish club although I have no more information on the second ditching.

    Dear Harvey
Could you provide us with some details, as to where and when Jerzy Krzysztofinski passed away, and where he was buried, so the books may be ammended?
    Did he serve RAF post-war?
    Thanks

    Henk,

KRZYSZTOFINSKI was rescued by No.277 Sqn., not No.227 Sqn.

    Hi Harvey

Thanks for your post. I'm afraid, however, that my interest in your father-in-law is only a passing one, as he was a casualty on Ramrod 233 in which 41 Squadron (my interest) participated.

If you are interested, please contact me off board at brew(AT)clients(DOT)ch, I will e-mail you a copy of the 11 Group ORB Appendix that details the operation.

I've no doubt that Franek will have a deeper interest that me and would be happy to hear more detail from you.

    Regards
    Steve
