Default Clarification on Spelling of Airfield name

    Some advice please.

Is it RAF Charter Hall or RAF Charterhall?
The 54 OTU ORB 1943 to 1945 has it as Charter Hall
    J B Thompson's book 'The Charterhall Story'
    Richard Hillary's memorial 'Charterhall'
    O/S Maps 'Charterhall'

    or are both accepted?

    your thoughts

    Chris

The current, accepted, spelling is 'Charterhall' - there is (or was?) a Met Office Automatic Weather Station (AWS) there. I did the 'site finding' for that AWS. In spite of letters to the Land Owners, the then current Farmer saw my technical engineers (and PSA!) off with at least one barrel from his 12-bore. Those were the days!!
We called it Charter Hall - but I now see from the Met O list of observing sites it is Charterhall.
Depends, I suppose, on which school you went to!!

Under current ownership, it is known as Charterhall.
