    Default OTU57 and 2 TEU

    Hi,

According to the record of service of a Free French pilot, following the 5 AFU he has been posted to OTU 57 AND n° 2 TEU in Grangemouth on 20 july 1943 ! Is there a relationship between OTU57 and n°2 TEU ? I am afraid that the posting to 2 TEU is not the good date.

    Hi,

No.57 OTU was based at Eshott and No.58 OTU at Grangemouth.

In Oct 1943 No.58 OTU at Grangemouth changed role and became No.2 Tactical Exercise Unit remaining on Grangemouth and satellite Balado Bridge.

The closest entry at No.58 was formed on 13th July 1943 but did not contain any French pilots.

No intake started at No.57 on 20th July 1943.

    What was your man's name?

    Default 57OTU and 2CTW/TEU

    Hi Bertrand
57 OTU was at Hawarden - no known link with 2TEU. 58 OTU was at Grangemouth and it became 2 Combat Training Wing on 5 Oct 43. The title was quickly changed to 2 Tactical Exercise Unit.

It seems likely your man did his initial operational training at 57 OTU but then was posted to 2 TEU to complete it (the TEUs introduced ground attack exercises to the syllabus); this was the normal path for trainee fighter/fighter-bombers pilots at that time.
