This gentleman was my late mother's first husband. She was a war widow when she married my father in 1947 but my family has no information on this first husband only the standard acknowledgement of his sacrifice and just now a recent photograph of his headstone in Rainsough Jewish Cemetery. Does anyone here have any details of his service record and how he met his death.

    Hello Jonathan,

reading the message you quoted above, he died in the loss fo an RAF Wellington bomber serial number R3232 which was based with the unit named 20 Operational Training Unit (20 OTU).

BAsic history of the OTU is here:
    http://www.rafweb.org/OTU_1.htm

it was basically a training unit where trained pilots, navigators, bombers and gunners, radio operators caem together after their individual training to be put to gether as a crew and training as a bomber crew.

Basic details of the aircraft loss is contained in the book:

Bomber Command Losses, Vol 7 by B Chorley. iIt will be a few lines in a large book so it might be more worth your while getting it through your local library.

And there is no need to ues the 'quote' function as it only duplicate text and fills up the forum servers.
