Default Former 218 squadron pilots 1936-1939

Pilot Officer Newton-Howes' Christian names were William Herbert Robert Noel. Does anyone know where he was posted in 1941 when promoted to Squadron Leader? Or does anyone know anything about his airforce involvement from then on? He was my father-in-law and my sons are interested

Welcome to the forum. Your best starting point is to obtain his service record, details as to how to proceed can be found at https://www.gov.uk/requests-for-pers...sonnel-records. This will list his service details, including promotions and awards (if any) and the units with which he served (and dates). The record usually contains a lot of acronyms, but we, the forum, would be more than happy to help decipher them if necessary. Just for the record his service number was 37297 - you will need this for the service record application. There is a £30 fee, and the documents take about 10 weeks to arrive.
