Hello,
11-3-1944
No.1688 Bomber (Defence) Training Flight (ex- No.1483 (Bombing) Gunnery Flight).
Hurricane IIC LF426
Air Test
Took off Newmarket and shortly before 1430, it was seen formating on an Oxford trainer. It seems that W/O Tew RAAF broke off, banked steeply, lost control and failed to recover before his Hurricane hit the ground and burst into flames near Weltmore Farm in Norfolk. From Toowoomba in Queensland, he was buried at 1430 hours on 16 March in Cambridge City Cemetery. An inauspicious start for the unit, which had formed earlier in the day.
