Default British Newspaper Arhive Now Online

It only has a couple of local newspapers upto 1940's but more newspapers are going to be added in time- something like 8000 pages a day

Also costs money to see full image.. But it appears you can search for free

I searched for Crash in Tamworth Herald (as it has data to 1944)

    http://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/search/results?basicsearch=crash&frontpage=false&newspapertitle=tamworth%20herald

    and got this

    Tamworth Herald

    Sat 24 Jan 1931

    Staffordshire, England

    THREE DEAD IN AIR CRASH
    29 Words

“N AIR CRASH. Three persons‚€”two of whom were air officers residing in the Midlands‚€”lost their lives when a Royal Air Force bomber crashed near Winchester on Monday. ... ?

which I assume is a reference to incident in which

Fg Off Monroe W S Walter Sydney Killed 19 Jan 31
Fg Off Barton J John Killed 19 Jan 31

    were killed

Although unlikely to assist with local UK crashes, quite a lot of UK aviation reporting was copied by the New Zealand and Australian papers, the respective governments of which, being more enlightened than their British counterpart and in the true spirit of the internet, allow you to search, view and copy material from their newspapers of old online for free and via websites that are also more user friendly. Worth having a look at them first and then the UK site only as a last resort.
