    Hi Henk

I have Buckman and Keith (not Reith) as possibles in Beaufighter X, LZ156 of No 304 FTU, which flew into high ground near Campbeltown in bad weather. Keith is not in Eng/Wales

I have Seckington as a possible in Beaufighter I, X7545 of No 51 OTU, from the previous day, died of injuries?

    Hi Henk
Malcolm's idea for Seckington might work but it requires some mis-ident of the crash site. AB Serials give the site for X7545 as Sheringham (which is in Norfolk!) but 51 OTU was based at Cranfield ,Bedfordshire(from Sturtivant's Flying Training and Support Units), and not too far away is a village of Sherington, N E of the modern Milton Keynes and ,at the time, within the Registration district of N Buckinghamshire where Seckington's death is registered. The boundary between Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire is very close and flying from one county to the next on training would not be unusual.
    Regards

The website on Kintyre Air Crashes (link below) shows Buckman and Stockdale on Beaufighter LZ156.

    http://www.kintyreonrecord.co.uk/articles.php?article_id=61

BEAUFIGHTER (LZ156) - NGR 623 063 - This aircraft was from Port Ellen Islay and crashed on the August 28, 1943. Much is left of this aircraft and although it was buried there is still a lot of 20mm ammunition lying around this site. The pilot was Ronald Arthur Buckman, aged 25 yrs, of the RAFVR. (Death certificate obtained for confirmation) Mr Buckman is buried in West Lavington Sussex. The other crewman was T. N. Stockdale, air gunner, W/O, RAF.

Martyn - thans for confirming crew of LZ156

Dick - my copy of A-B serials shows X7545 as Sherington not Sheringham.

Seckington is listed on the 27th on CWGC not 28th which fits with X7545

    Thanks Malcolm,
My copy says Sheringham,Beds.!!!. I know of Sheringham Norfolk from my Air Signaller days at Swanton Morley and didn't even think to take notice of the county!! but at least it increases the possibility of Seckington being on X7545. Was there a 2nd crew member who survived?

    Henk,

Alan Storr suggests that AUS427007 F/Sgt (Pilot) Ronald Keith MATTHEWS RAAF, took off from Church Lawford in Oxford II 4733 [sic] on 28-8-1943, on a solo night cross-country flight and crashed at 0505hrs in the vicinity of Wythall, 11m from Wittenfield (?). F/Sgt MATTHEWS RAAF was killed. It was presumed that there was loss of control of the aircraft whilst in flight.

Belsay is my other possibility for X7545 as he is also registered in North Bucks.

There is no Andrew M Reith on CWGC it is Andrew M Keith, printing error in Flight?
