    Thanks Dick & Martyn.
Dick: Serial was AZ248, not AZ242. (Air Britain AA100-AZ999 latest edition: Dived into ground during slow roll, Ternhill, damaged by fire, "FLOWN BY NON-PILOT"). What means that the pilot survived or the Airgunner u/t JOHNS was at the controls ???
    Regards,
    Henk.

    Hi Henk

Cook died from injuries sustained three days earlier when Halifax II, DT802 of No 1659 HCU, crashed into a parked Halifax (DT629) whilst landing with a feathered engine at Topcliffe at the conclusion of a night training exercise.

Can confirm Johns as solo pilot of AZ248. He was a 'suspended pilot' who took the aircraft for an 'unauthorised' flight. Why CWGC has him as an AG u/t, I'm not quite sure? Mistake I would presume.

    Cheers,

    Tom

Thanks Tom. Was a 'suspended' pilot and perhaps "re-training" Airgunner.

    Henk.

Hi Henk, I doubt it, as Tern Hill housed a (P)AFU and a MU, no air gunner training facility. Johns was on strength of the MU at the time of his death. The accident card notes he had flown 97 hrs, of which 22 were on Masters.

    Cheers,

    Tom
