    Default Spitfire IV BR642

    Hello Everybody,

I have some doubts about the career of BR642. It seems that it was lost while serving 128 Sqn in Gambia. Does anyone know more details on this (pilot and circumstances AB gives 281142)? Indeed even if reported as being in use by 128 Sqn, I suspect that it was not the case, but only detached from 1 PRU, as for the pilots. No trace of any Spit is reported in 128 ORB, and as far as I know all the publications did not mentioned the Spit IV as part of the 128 inventory in Western Africa.

Any more info would be appreciated

    Thanks in advance
    Phil

    Hi Phil,

No record of BR642 flying any operational sorties with 1 PRU up until it was disbanded on 19 Oct 42 or any record of it being passed on to any of the squadrons formed from 1 PRU on that date.

It was probably at Benson prior to being sent overseas but gets no mention in the ORB.

    Best Regards
