    Here's what I have on DD800:

The pilot was F/Sgt R.E. Wakeford, he survived the ditching and became a PoW. The ditching was caused by double engine failure. Missing on a patrol from Malta. Sgt Kenneth E. WINSOR - 1163062 - commemorated on Panel 9 Column 2 of the Malta Memorial. Took off 1815 to attack targets in the Sfax and Sousse areas. (Fighters Over Tunisia) Missing on patrol from Malta 2.3.43 (Air Britain Serials)

I have Hallam & Turner on EL335, info from the ORB.

The No.41 OTU ORB records P/O (promotion must have been 'awaiting' so was recorded after his death) Verley as being seriously injured on the 28th Feb as a result of mutliple bird strikes (said to be gulls) after which his aircraft crashed and caught fire. He was removed from the aircraft by 2 ATC cadets.

LAC's Hill & Nutter were recorded in the 8 AGS ORB as being on L6408, the entry was put as a month end summary of serious incidents.

    Malcolm,

I've GILROY also on either ER850 or ES356.

LAC Sidney E. WILLIAMS - 1264046 is GRO-listed as 70 OTU. Killed on AG945 of 72 OTU were Major (Pilot) F.W. SPENCER - SAAF 203160V and Capt (Pilot) A.C.F. SELLS - SAAF 203145V. (Source: Winston Brent's "85 Years of SAAF").

EF936: Also as a casualty on this aircraft Sgt (Pilot) Corri W. RUSLING - 657101.

HUNT on SA aircraft 3244 was a Nav u/t. Other airmen killed in this accident were:
    Lt (Pilot) Marvyn A. COTTERELL - SAAF 206614 * LAC (Pilot u/t) Arthur F. MAWBY - 752960 * LAC (Nav u/t) Stanley R. WILLIAMS - 951314 and Air Mech John A. JONES - SAAF 327950 (Source: "85 Years of SAAF").

All other proposed names and aircraft serials same in my files.

    Regards,
    Henk.

    Default march 43 -1

Malcolm , I can add the following to the crash of Mustang AG585 ,41 OTU 28/2/43,

The A/c lost height while over the Gunnery range , this resulted in multiple bird strikes , that rendererd the ASI U/S ,
while turning into land at HAWARDEN , the A/C stalled and crashed nr Hawarden Villiage ,

Indeed 2 ATC CADETS , assisted by a Mr John Thomas of the the MERCHANT NAVY ,all showed great courage in removing the pilot from the aircraft that was on fire , The PILOT F/O VERLEY E W G, RCAF died on the 1/3/43 from injuries sustained in the crash of 28/2/43 .
