    Shute was the sole occupant of Beaufort DX116.

    There were three crew on T5818, Jones died in Carlisle hospital at 1400 but the other two received relatively minor injuries and were not named in the ORB.

    Malcolm,
    T5818 (JONES) serial should read T5158.
    T7919 (CARPENDALE) "died" on active service; death registered Salisbury, Wiltshire.
    Must check EL264 (OWENS) and K7313 (McINTOSH); all other losses same in my files.

    K7313 (McINTOSH) not in my files; can't confirm.
    Agree with EL264 (OWENS, the Nav); Sgt (Pilot) A.L. CHISHOLME - 1370156 injured.

    EJ916, 257 Sqn, Flt Lt Miller, crashed on take-off, Warmwell Airfield, Dorset
    DN481, 609 Sqn, Sgt Booth, structural failure, broke up during unauthorised aerobatics and crashed near Great Knell farm, Ash, Surrey
    in advance:
    19.3.1943, DN444, 247 Sqn, F/Sgt Q.M. Shippee (R132528), low flying, spun in, Madeley, Shropshire
    29.3.1943, R8888, 609 Sqn, Sgt. H.W. Jackson (1238595), engine failure, crashed trying to force land at Manston, Kent

    Spratley

    AD651<n>D
    Took off 2025, Gardabia East, detailed to bomb the harbour and shipping at Palermo. The aircraft ran out of fuel and in trying to ditch offshore crashed in a coastal palm grove 15km from Homs. Sgt Spratley is buried in Tripoli War Cemetery.
