The 70 Sqn Wellington III was, according to the Air Historical Branch, DF705. I have nothing in the way of a loss for DF706, though it was with 70 Sqn.

John - thanks for the three confirmations.

David - It should have been DF705 I mis-typed it, DF706 groundlooped on take off from Kairouan on 30 Sep 1943 (according to A-B).

    Malcolm,

P9125: I've besides GILLMAN also as casualties:
    LAC Donald E. WINTERTON - 1024758, and
    AC1 Arthur B. DOUTHWAITE - 1002818 (of 301 FTU).
Both need confirmation. Could there be a match crashlocation vs death registration ?

MERCER died from natural causes in Canada (RCAF Casualty List # 534 of 28-3-1943; his mortal remains must have been repatriated [postwar ?] to UK.4200 (Croydon [Mitcham Rd] Cemetery, Surrey).

DF706: Was one of the crew ROSS or MOSS ?

    Regards,
    Henk.

    Capt George C. DENTON, and
Mr Alexander E. DAME (not listed by CWGC).

    Hi Henk

Winterton and Douthwaite both could not be found in Eng/Wales registers so perhaps in Northern Ireland with Gilman.

There was a Moss on DF705 (not 706 as previously mentioned in error)

Thanks for the others on BZ396, however, I only record RAF casualties.

    Thanks, Malcolm.

I will go back to the 70 Sqn ORB to try to find out more about DF706, such as crew, target, if operating etc. Unfortunately it is not one of the best-kept ORBs in 205 Group.

    David.
