Form 449 - Monthly Return of Officers and Airman Pilots
A pre war form that continued into the 1939-45 period.
Air Force Lists prior to Feb 1939 used this detail to compile the "Where Serviing Section".
Few survive in the records but using the PORs that do in Unit, Group and HQ ORBs it is possible to track changes of staff and make a passible attempt to recreate for other units.
334 Return of Officers in accordance with Establishment
1 Each unit at home and abroad will render to the Air Ministry, through the usual channels, a monthly return on Form 449 of all officers on the strength of, or attached to, the unit, whether or not filling vacancies in establishment.

3 The form will set out each vacancy authorised by establishment quoting the reference number and date of establishment in force; also the rank and name and type of commission of the officar filling the vacancy and any necessary remarks.
