    Cheers.

By the way, on the bottom of the bio for Spence you mention
he is covered in the Official History volumes by Thompson. I have
been able to find the two entries in the text, but is tere alsoa photo?

If there is I wasn't able to find it. Could it be that only the text appears online?

    Default Aircrew losses

    Hi Johnnie,
Some more information on D J Spence.
From Shores' Those Other Eagles', Spence's claims.
    1941
    11 April 1/2 Z 1007 Hurricane I V7780 60m N Alexandria.
19 April (AM) Ju88 Hurricane I V7354 Ras el Mehta.
    19 April (PM) Me 109 Hurricane I V7354 W Tobruk.
    21 April Me 109 HurricaneI V7354
    (By collision)

It seems possible that both of his claimed Me 109s were flown by the same pilot,Lt Werner Schroer of I/JG 27.Spence was shot down and killed 30 April 1941 while strafing enemy columns between Gazala and Sollum, probably by Oberleutnant Wolfgang Redlich of I/JG27.
    Regards,Mark.

    Thank you for that.

There is also a note of him sharing the Italian aircraft on the 11th of April
    here:

It seems he shared it with F/O Weller

    Johnnie:
By way of reconfirmation, Anthony Pinhorn was at No. 6 SFTS, Little Rissington over the same period.

    Johnnie,

'& phot.' refers to (the illustrated section of) 'The Weekly News', though I can see how the full stop in the abbreviation of photograph might misled one. The 21.5.41 photo, incidentally, is a small head and shoulders view of Spence.

Prints or scans can be obtained through the RNZAF Museum, who hold a near complete set of the WWII issues of TWN. Write to:
    info@airforcemuseum.co.nz

    Thanks for clearing that up.

Robert. Where did you get the information about Pinhorn from?
